Welcome to The Tokyo Girl Books, my publishing imprint!
Cabaret Club Confessions
I have the cover for this one already done because I was THIS CLOSE to publishing it. I really felt like doing something different this time around, and I ended up doing this in an interview format. As in, it was 95% dialogue. But when I emailed the sample to myself on Kindle I was like…what have I done? I can’t publish THIS!
The pace felt too fast…maybe if I were to rewrite it like a transcript it would work, but not for a novella. And who wants to read a transcript, anyway? So this one is under construction. I don’t want to rush it because I want something that isn’t embarrassing to tell people I wrote. Which brings me to:
Queens of Kabukicho by Mana S. Joy
Queens of Kabukicho was my first novella, written under the pen name Mana.
What I learned from writing this was, as an independent publisher with the freelance equivalent of a full-time job and adulting responsibilities, it was even more difficult than I thought it would be to write a novel by myself! With no editor or team behind me, there’s surely many discrepancies and errors in the book. I hope you can look past that.
But do email firstname.lastname@example.org with any comments or inquiries. Here’s the synopsis:
“Three lives intersect in Tokyo’s infamous red light district, Kabuki-cho. Vivienne’s party girl lifestyle is getting her nowhere. She’s eventually drawn to the mysterious world of Tokyo’s hostess clubs, where love is for sale. Her sister Vienna, on the other hand, seems to have life worked out. She has a job and a boyfriend, but when she gets a chance to fly to Tokyo and find her sister, she finds she doesn’t want to leave. Hefei-born and Shanghai-raised Taiya runs a couple of the clubs and gives both of the girls their first shot at playing hostess. While Vivienne excels, quickly rising through the ranks and enjoying a champagne and caviar lifestyle, her younger sister Vienna is stuck at the bottom, meeting with seedy men and seeing the less glamorous aspects of the lifestyle up close.”
